Mechanical clocks are the most traditional style of clock available today. All have at least these four basic parts: a power source in the form of a weight or mainspring, a gear train to govern the speed of the movement, an escapement to precisely time beats, and a way to read the time of the device⦠the hands of the clock. The original design is hundreds of years old and has been slowly perfected since the beginning. These clocks can come with or without a pendulum that regulates the time keeping. Many of these pieces have chimes that are played on rods in the clock to truly produce real tunes of the clock. The sounds of a mechanical clock are difficult to reproduce and the authenticity of one these pieces have kept them a common centerpiece in homes worldwide.
